Converting Video for York Streaming
The York Streaming tool available in the VLE requires that your video should be stored in specific range of formats.
We recommend using WinFF, a free video conversion program that can be installed on your PC or run from a memory stick. This guide covers running the application from a memory stick or local hard drive. Please note that running the programme from a networked location such as My Documents can cause problems.
Installing and using WinFF
- Download the WinFF tool here: http://www.winpenpack.com/main/request.php?1093
- Open the zipped folder and extract its contents to a memory stick, external hard drive or a location on your local hard drive (e.g. C:\User Files) - this may not work if you save the content to a network location
- Navigate to the location where you have stored your unzipped WinFF files
- Double click on X-WinFF.exe to start the programme
- From the Convert To... drop down list, select MPEG-4.
- Select the required size and quality option from the Device Preset drop down list. If your video is 4:3 dimensions, choose MP4 Fullscreen. MP4 Widescreen supports 16:9 Widescreen video with MPEG-4 720p & MPEG-4 1080p giving options for HD video.
- Click on the Add button to find the file(s) you want to convert
- Click on the thee dots to choose the location where your converted video will be saved
- Click Convert to begin the conversion process. The command prompt dialogue box will update you on progress and the converted files will be saved in the chosen location.
